The Farm
The La Ginestra farm, located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa spans over approximately 100 hectares, in the
Tuscan hills.
The farm was founded in 1978 by a group of young enthusiasts who settled on these wild, uncultivated lands with the dream of renewing and maintaining the Tuscan countryside. Organically certified since 1989, La Ginestra Bio Farm is devoted to sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming.
We are a multifunctional farm with a holistic and biodiverse approach to cultivation. Most farms, even organic ones, concentrate their efforts on a single type of production. At La Ginestra, we grow a wide variety of crops like cereals, legumes, wine grapes, olives, cannabis, bees, and raise beautiful pigs and cows.
The work that was begun in the seventies is continued to this day with passion and determination by a new
generation of enthusiasts: Dario, Alessandro, Martina, Lauro, Silvio, Chiara and Matteo, and diligently co-ordinated by the oldest of us, Marco.
We are a close-knit group with the desire to continue to enhance and preserve our land. Each of us
specializes in a different facet of the farm, but we are proud to work together with a collaborative and synergistic balance that makes La Ginestra special.
Our lands, is currently composed of:
- 7 hectares of vineyards from which we produce our natural wines,
- 40 hectares of open fields used for both cows and to grow ancient grains, from which we obtain
our flours for pasta and bread, spelt, legumes such as chickpeas and
- 1 hectare of olive trees
- Around 45 hectars of forest
Beside the agricultural work, we have a cute and peaceful guesthouse where guests can stay for a holiday, visit the restaurant for an organic, farm-grown meal, enjoy a tasting of our wines, or visit us for one of our fun events!
